Russia’s Europe-bound pipeline natural gas exports declined throughout 2022, falling from highs of 15 BCF/d during 2019 through a series of disruptions: the April 27th halt of deliveries to Poland and Bulgaria over payment disputes, the July 27th shutdown of a key Nord Stream 1 compressor, and the September 26th apparent sabotage that fully shut down the Germany-bound Nord Stream 1 system. Despite the war, Ukraine has maintained transit of approximately 1 BCF/d of Russian gas, utilizing about one-eighteenth of NaftoGaz’s transit capacity.
